Karl “Schlimmer” Schlimm, Director of Flight Operations and Safety for Aviation Performance Solutions (APS) attended the Southern California Aviation Association’s (SCAA) 5th Annual Safety Stand-down at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa in California on September 16, 2013. The SCAA Mission is to advance and promote aviation related business throughout southern California; to address safety concerns and promote education on the importance of business aviation.
Karl provided a one hour presentation to over 75 pilots on the importance of Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) in aviation. He addressed why Loss-of-Control-in-Flight (LOC-I) is the number-one threat to the aviation community and why a well-structured UPRT program, such as the one APS provides, can help to mitigate that threat. He also discussed many of the reasons why pilots untrained in upset recovery often make fatal errors in judgment and execution. Karl conducted a question-and-answer session afterwards. He thanks the members of SCAA for inviting him to present at their event and considers the event a great success.
