Original Release (PR Underground): APS Europe Upset Training Selected by KLM Flight Academy
Mesa, Arizona (PRUnderground) July 2nd, 2015 – KLM Flight Academy, a 100% subsidiary of the Netherlands-based global air carrier KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, announced today the selection of APS Europe, the European subsidiary of Aviation Performance Solutions (APS), as its provider of Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) to all KLM Flight Academy Netherlands-based flight instructors delivering the ab-initio airline transport pilot program.
Effectively delivered upset recovery training mitigates the loss of control in-flight (LOC-I) threat to commercial air safety through pilot education and practical skill development. LOC-I is defined as flight that occurs outside of the normal flight envelope with an inability of the pilot to control the aircraft. In a report issued by Boeing in August 2014, the Commercial Aviation Safety Team’s statistical research identifies LOC-I as the most severe hull loss causal factor in commercial aviation worldwide over the past 10 years, resulting in the most crash-related fatalities from 2004 through 2013. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has made mitigating LOC-I one of the Agency’s highest priorities and is accelerating their rulemaking in this area.
KLM Flight Academy realizes the importance of industry-compliant upset recovery training for its flight instructors to prevent loss of control in-flight situations.” said Mark Gerritsen, the Head of Training for KLM Flight Academy, “KLM Flight Academy has made specialized upset prevention and recovery training a mandatory part of our flight instructor training requirements for instructors delivering the ab-initio airline transport pilot (ATPL) program. Following a thorough investigation and evaluation, APS is clearly the best solution.” The ongoing upset recovery training commitment between KLM Flight Academy and APS indicates a clear signal to the traveling public that LOC-I will be seriously addressed by progressive air carriers and their academies.
“APS is once again honored by this prestigious relationship with KLM Flight Academy. We’re looking forward to working with their entire team and cadre of instructors providing licensing training to their cadets.” says Paul BJ Ransbury, president of Aviation Performance Solutions, “It is the responsibility of flight schools around the world to implement industry-standardized loss of control in-flight solutions in accordance with ICAO Doc 10011 – Manual on Aeroplane Upset Prevention and Recovery Training and the newly released IATA Guidance Material and Best Practices for the Implementation of Upset Prevention and Recovery Training.”
