APS’ training location at the CAE Dothan Training Center (CAE DTC) in Dothan, Alabama provides a powerful and unique experience for military organizations and civilian turboprop pilots. In 2016, APS partnered with CAE USA to deliver Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) as part of the U.S. Army Fixed-Wing Flight Training program at the CAE DTC. This successful partnership was expanded in 2019 to additionally offer APS UPRT to other domestic and foreign military organizations as well as civilians. Integrated UPRT includes academic training in state-of-the-art classrooms, on-aircraft training in the Grob 120TP and simulator training in one of four CAE 7000XR Series C-12 King Air full-flight simulators (FFSs).

Just 20 miles from Fort Rucker, the home of Army Aviation, the CAE DTC is in close proximity to a variety of popular hotels and restaurants as well as nature parks and interesting museums.  Minutes from the Georgia and Florida borders, Dothan is an hour and a half drive to Panama City Beach; a famous waterfront town and vacation destination in northwest Florida. Dothan is a short thirty-minute flight from Atlanta.

Upset training courses teach every participant to recover from a wide diversity of in-flight upset situations or flight envelope excursions. Uniquely, the APS-CAE training programs offered at the CAE Dothan Training Center focus on UPRT for turboprop pilots, the only in-operation military turboprop UPRT program made available to civilians of its kind worldwide. The courses set a new standard in UPRT solutions for single-engine and multi-engine fleet-types such as Pilatus, Meridian, Jetprop, TBM, Skycourier, King Air, and many more.

Aircraft & Simulators

The following training platforms are part of the integrated UPRT courses at the Dothan Training Center:

Grob 120TP

An ideal platform for UPRT, the Grob 120TP is a modern, fully aerobatic, all-composite aircraft featuring a turboprop powerplant for superb reliability.

CAE 7000XR Series C-12 King Air Full-Flight Simulator

Simulator upset training at the CAE DTC is conducted in one of four 7000XR Series C-12 King Air full-flight simulators (FFSs), equipped with the all-new, enhanced UPRT Instructor Operating Station (IOS) jointly developed by CAE and APS.  The IOS helps comprehensively analyze airplane upset events in real time and assists in transferring skills learned in the Grob 120TP into the multi-engine/multi-pilot crew environment.

The APS programs at the Dothan Training Center are a direct extension of the APS headquarters in Arizona. At Dothan, the team is passionate about providing dedicated training to turboprop pilots who are interested in improving their knowledge, skills and awareness in relation to Loss of Control In-flight.
