APS Speaks at the NTSB Training Academy on Loss of Control


NTSB Training AcademyAs part of Day 1 of the 2013 Air Charter Safety Symposium on Tuesday, 26 February 2013, the APS president Paul BJ Ransbury provided a 1-hour presentation on the loss of control in-flight (LOC-I) threat to over an hundred Part 135 operators. The symposium was held at the NTSB Training Center in Ashburn, Virginia. Joined by Capt. Lou Nemeth the CAE Chief Safety Officer, Mr. Ransbury addressed the nature of LOC-I and the mechanisms by which this unique air safety hazard can penetrate pilot skills, defenses and counter measures in daily commercial operations.

Ransbury and Nemeth provided an update on industry advances on the subject of LOC-I mitigation through upset prevention & upset recovery training and framed anticipated regulatory progress in this domain of safety of flight in the coming months and years. Concluding the presentation, Capt. Nemeth delivered an additional 30-minute session on Simulator Operational Quality Assurance (SOQA) and how this innovative technology can provides powerful insight into air safety practices across the spectrum of aviation operations.
