The MCFI achievement is a national, FAA recognized accreditation that signifies a true dedication to excellence in flying and safety. The MCFI is earned through a rigorous process of continuing professional activity and peer review and must be renewed biennially. There are approximately 101,000 CFIs in the United States.  Fewer than 800 of them have achieved one or more of the Master accreditations thus far. Master Instructors LLC relates, “Simply put, the Master Instructor designation is a means by which to identify those outstanding aviation educators, those “Teachers of Flight,” who are demonstrating an ongoing commitment to excellence, professional growth, and service to the aviation community.”
“At APS, we are dedicated to excellence in helping pilots bring everyone home safely through comprehensive Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT),“ says Paul BJ Ransbury, president of Aviation Performance Solutions. “The achievement of MCFI-A status is an important milestone for full-time APS instructor pilots, along with their extensive background experience and unmatched in-house UPRT-specific training. As stated by the FAA in multiple advisory circulars, and as ICAO reaffirms in their Manual on Aeroplane UPRT, ICAO Doc 10011, a well-qualified instructor is the most essential component in the delivery of effective UPRT. ”
ABOUT THE MASTER INSTRUCTOR DESIGNATION
The Master Instructor designation is a national accreditation recognized by the FAA. Candidates must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to excellence, professional growth, and service to the aviation community, and must pass a rigorous evaluation by a peer Board of Review. The process parallels the continuing education regimen used by other professionals to enhance their knowledge base while increasing their professionalism. Designees are recognized as outstanding aviation educators for not only their excellence in teaching, but for their engagement in the continuous process of learning — both their own, and their students’. The designation must be renewed biennially and significantly surpasses the FAA requirements for renewal of the candidate’s flight instructor certificate.
